New Junkie Faithful Review
November 17, 2005
The Ike Reilly Assassination's latest CD Junkie Faithful keeps racking up fantastic press.

Junkie Faithful.jpg

Here's the latest, a four-star review from Ricky Flake of the Sun Herald:

Last year's "Sparkle In The Finish" was one of the best recordings that came my way: a punky, bluesy, individualistic slice of great songwriting and soulful instrumentation.

Ike Reilly (vocals, guitar) and his longtime band mates (Dave Cottini/drums, Tommy O'Donnell/bass, Phil Kamatz/guitar, Ed Tinley/piano and guitar) come up with impossibly catchy tunes that sometimes belie the depth of their subject matter. Like the powerhouse bands of the early '60s, Reilly and Co. have followed "Sparkle" with a new album less than a year later.

Sonically, the album is amazing. Vocal melodies aren't Reilly's strong suit, but his lyricism knows no bounds. Thus, the pointed words roll out as he raps, sings, stutters, hollers and whispers the songs. Even the songs with lyrical content too morose for me at this point have tons of nifty lyrics and impassioned, compassionate playing.

The kickoff tune, "22 Hours of Darkness," sums up many of the IRA's coolest features: punchy bass, solid drumming, nifty guitar/keyboard interplay and Ike's thought-provoking rap/singing over the top.

Other favorites: the unapologetic apology "I Will Let You Down," the vivid imagery of "The Edge of the Universe Café," the dirty rocker "Farm Girl" and the comforting closer, "Everything is Gonna Be Allright."

Thoughtful listeners should snag this one for themselves or as a prickly Christmas gift for their friends.

The Ike Reilly Assassination is Coming!
November 6, 2005

The Ike Reilly Assassination is returning to the DuKum Upp on Friday, November 18th with HappyAss and Stop, Thief! opening.

They are quite simply one of the best live bands out there - a conviction shared by no less a journalistic trinity than The New York Times, Maxim, and Time Out New York - and they put out great albums to boot.

The band is filling 500+ seat venues like The Double Door in Chicago and Minneapolis's First Avenue, but you get to see them at Kirksville's own DuKum Inn.

Souled American, who graced the DuKum stage in May 2007, is featured in this month's issue of The Believer.

The author, Theodore McDermott, makes his worship of the band clear when he proclaims, "when I listen to music, I listen to Souled American."

A must-read!
